I think it's the plug to the ecu . or the ecu . most people forget some cars uses the ecu to controll the battery charging voltage

Hey Sam. Did you solve the charging issue? Someone mentioned the positive battery cable. Another possible cause, is a bad ground due to the flood. Also, I’ve had issues with phantom draw. Once the car has been shut off for about 10 minutes, check the charge level of the battery. Check ohms being drawn, it should be less than 0.1 milliamps. If it’s higher than that, it’s time to start tracing wiring for any cracks, exposed wiring bared due to chafing possibly touching metal. This could be the source of a phantom, or unaccounted for draw.

I bet you got a short that is draining the battery... Check for it with a multimeter on the ampere setting for consumption

You should never drive a car at all let alone really hard if you suspect the engine was submerged in water. Correct practice should be to drain all lubes, coolant, fluids and fuel and replace then proceed to test drive.😉

These things have been going strong in Europe for a while, you couldnt get a decent M3 for less then 18k. You can literally get a newer model M3 for a couple grand more. The E46 M3 is still my favorite by far!

Don’t lift the hood up by the hood latch. You’ll bend it and it will end up sticking out the front of the grilles

sometimes electrical gremlins happen after paint/body work due to paint insulating grounds where they had bare metal before paint.

That hole in the door is from them trying to remove a dent with a dent puller. Also, someone probably rotated the wheels not knowing M3’s come staggered.

Positive wire from batterie terminal make sure to replace with srs terminal on the positive wire and the wire problem fixed

Buys E46 without scanning **E46 Fanatic community losing their minds intensifies** 🤣 PS get ready to do the rocker cover and oil filter housing gaskets and replace the cooling system. Standard new owner maintenance on a used E46. Also make sure to check the crash sensors in the floor wells. If they get wet they corrode easily. Good luck. You've bought our E46 community dream car. This is a sweet deal.... When dealing with a battery load issue/condition where your having to replace starters and batteries as well as a engine cut out, I would recommend you test for current leakage. In laymen terms, checking for electrical opens/shorts. You'll need a good multi-meter (I use the Fluke 87 - capable 10e3 reading). Start first by removing the negative cable from the battery in the trunk. You'll check 2 fuse boxes engine fuse box driver side and glove box. Start with the engine compartment. With the battery ground off, test for voltage across (load) across the fuse poles. The path that shows a voltage has current draw. Expected Normal Condition: All fuses should read 0.000 however if not, there's your starting point - trace and debug that path. A note for you to consider; these E46 ECU's are fairly accurate in tracking components; OBD2 coding. Though I will add they are not 100% Eagerly watching for your outcome!
