Do not buy it ,the head gasket is gone and the engine is no good due to a small crash and broken radiator, A time machine would be good so you could see into next year.

I've pulled rags out of a cooling system of an engine that had overheating problems, previous mechanic must have forgot to un-stuff a spigot before he put the hose on.

I don't know about BNW but on GM cars if you put the wrong antifreeze in, it will interact with the Aluminum Radiator and silt up. My Old S10 had the same problem your BMW may have. Everything checks out and then I drained the radiator. It Held a gallon of fluid. There was supposed to be 4.5 gallons. Flushed it out the best i could. Got a new radiator, problem solved. 2 years later had to have a power flush done on the heater core. More Silt. Never had a problem with it after that.

Service departments are useless, they don't want to spend time fixing your car if it's difficult and time consuming, that's why they pass them on. Just don't buy these " bargains" unless you know how to fix them period. As Scotty says, endless money pits. The inconvenience!

Hey Sam, your problem could be your sensor in the engine, it could also be the plugs that relay that information at any point along the line from the engine to the computer. When they installed them originally, the people in the car plant may have bent the plugs when installing it as they are under time limits for each stage of constructing the car. You need to check all these lines. This has occurred to an Audi that I know and you know how good they are, so why couldn't it happen to BMW. If you sense that any part you checked along these lines, needs changing, the change it. You never know. Good luck mate. Regards, Jim.

The person who had it repossessed put something in the coolant system wich plugged the water jacket in the block.then overheating caused blown head gasket. Use borax to reverse flush it.

Run a water hose at one end to see if water comes out the other end To see any blockages Look at all the temp sensors an other connection with the system disconnect the connection look at it has a good connection I think they are low voltage and amp ,has to have a good contact to work properly Erik

When the top of the piston is "clean" caused to a blown head gasket it's actually the water that forms pressure in the combustion chamber. This knocks off every carbon build-up. Btw..it's a great way to de-carbon an older engine. Just let it get warm and gently pour some water into the carburetor. To me, it seems the problem with the BMW is either a broken thermostat (easy to fix and they should have detected that already) or some kind of blockage in the coolant circulation. It could be (I hope not) a blockage somewhere in the engine block. That would require stripping the engine from the car and take it apart. However, for the great discount, you got it's certainly worth the effort. I hope you get her running soon. :)

I think you should check break pads because tighten pads on disk put extra load and your little engine get hotter

Why not a ICE delete? Fill that space with batteries and run electric only. Also while you are at it do a "fake engine noise" delete. I know it's easier said than done with all of the computers expecting the ICE. What we really need is an open hardware skateboard platform (is that legendary IBM cornering front linkage system out of patent yet?), with open source software control. Yeah, it's a pipe dream, so until then I will deal with older E39's.

Jumper electric pump check for circulation flow if no .....then Do a hose flush 10 min. How... 1. With Hose in inlet filler and disconnect closest return until continued flowing water flowing out. 2. reconnect hose. 3. Run and check hose temperature with gun. 4. If over heating occurs disconnect electric pump hose and observe for flow while running vehicle. 5. If broken just Go on amazon and get a 12volt car water pump from bosch more reliable then bmw. wire it to the old pump plug. Seriously made for race cars.

My X5 was having the same problem and it turned out to be the sensor.
