That's why Ferraris are owned by wealthy people - because they are not practical or economical to own. Know why 5 yr old high-end German luxury sedans are so cheap? Because the people that can afford to maintain and repair them can also afford to buy a new one.

About that flange (although I can't imagine exactly the setup) why aren't you trying getting some measures of the gap that is going to be filled and go on machine shop and order that flange with the same hardness of the transmission material in order not to damage it. Then decide what is worth to do. Best hopes !!!

See no visual difference to the clutch of my RX 7 FC Turbo. It is also about same size. Have a spare set at home ( pressure plate and clutch plate ) was 70 bucks original Daikin made in Japan . Never had a leak on the sealing from the excentric shaft. At least the clutch plate from the Ferrari would have been used in other models as well so it should be only 50 to 100 bucks, no need to resurface the old one. The Gearbox is Getrag or ZF maybe ?

It may be a good excuse for monetizing a video but stop brainwashing people that This salvage cars could be good deals. They very seldom are and they never go up in value. Actually you should come clean in everything you know about the cars when you buy them, and not abuse the low i q of the viewers by telling then fantasies and unreal expectations. Always disclosing the whole truth is much better and let the people make this or own Informed judgment. In short Sam don't try to Be a car dealer.

Every time I’ve had a close look at a Ferrari it makes me wonder why anyone would pay such a large sum for something of such poor quality and then have to pay astronomical prices to maintain it. Having said that I have a BMW and Mercedes and I can safely say the Germans aren’t much better.

Is it just my eyes, or does the rear end of the crankshaft sit below the center line? It looks like the rear main seal has been almost compressed at the bottom while almost having a gap on the top-side - does this happen without the main bearings being very worn out/loose? It also looks like there might be some cracks in the cast metal in the bottom casing, but it might also be due to it being a cast part with no machining on the surface - I would however still be tempted to carefully dig a bit into the cracks with a knife edge to see if they go deep or not just to make sure that it's just superficial..

Hey Sam, you asked why so few of your viewers subscribe. Speaking for myself, it is the cognitive dissonance (my behaviors going against my beliefs) that I suffer when watching your videos. On one hand, I'm jealous that you buy a Ferrari for pocket change. (I really do try to avoid coveting... after all, it was a commandment not a suggestion.) On the other hand, I try to avoid schadenfreude (pleasure derived from the misfortune of others) when everything that could go wrong with the Ferrari does go wrong. It's like that famous movie 'Buster Keaton rebuilds a Copart Ferrari." I do find your videos educational and enlightening. And one very valuable lesson you taught me: Don't ever even think about buying a BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, or any other 'exotic' car where a single strut costs more than the GDP of some countries. Keep on keepin' on and I will do my very best not to envy or take pleasure from any misadventures.

Hey Sam, This Ferrari clutch story came to mind about how Ferrucchio Lamborghini was always having trouble with the weak clutch on his early 1960's 250 GT Ferrari that needed to be replaced almost every week. He was only building tractors at the time but he recognized that his Ferrari had a clutch designed like the ones his tractors used but the Ferrari;s clutch constantly wore out from being under sized for the task required . So he asked to speak with Enzo Ferrari about making his cars have stronger clutches only to be insulted by Il Commendatore for not sticking to driving his tractors instead of thinking he could ever manage a fine machine like a Ferrari. Ferrucchio became so pissed off over this insult that he started his own Automobile company that put Ferrari to shame. And the rest is history. PS, You have got to buy yourself a 2 post 10,000 lb lift to make these horrible jobs a piece of cake.and stop killing yourself working on the ground. That will be the best $3500 you will ever spend. Keep Up The Good Work And Merry Christmas to everyone.

Sorry Sir - but this is a typically Clickbait Video.... dramatizing Prices for the Idiots out there wattching this. I owned a Ferrari and the Parts are actually pretty "cheap" when you do some research. They are simple Parts from Fiat or LUK / BOSCH / ATE and so on... a Clutch is normally around a few 100 Bucks, the Throwout Bearing just under 80 to 100 cause they are simply purchased from another Company.... by Ferrari themselves. The Crancshaft Seal is also just any Aftermarket Parts which can be found by measuring it... So please.... AND - the "hot spots" are not from Oil, they happen by treating the Car wrong. The Driver was not used to drive Stick Shift at all. Launching hard actually is better than shifting and letting the Clutch slip.... THAT produces this Surface.
  • Christian Meier

@Samcrac well, as a former Ferrari Owner I know all that.... YOU indedd are just on Clickbaits for all the Millenials and Wannabe Mechanics out there.... nothing else. I never said YOUR Car has a Stickshift.... so what. I described it as an Example which usually causes this damage Sir. Measure the Bearing, compare Pictures of similar Cars... there is a Number on the Bearing, so use Google... come on... do I really need to tell you all this? OR just simply call a Manufacturer in Europe like LUK or SACHS or someone else. The Manufacturer doesn´t produce only for Ferrari, it´s a "off the shelf" Part. Ferrari just charges the Rich Dicks this amount to give them a Feeling of being "important & exclusive". ;-) AND - I live in Europe, so I´m familiar with these Cars..... since I grew up... now you ;-) I was wrenching on Porsches and other Cars like this when you were still wearing Diapers. *LOL* ciao bella.... ;-) HEy, why don´t you just call HOVIE or Daily driven Exotics or Rich or B is for whatever for help. They all do the same clickbait stuff like you. ;-)

Typical know it all message. The car doesn't have a "stick shift," nullifying everything else you've said. Find me a throwout bearing for $80-100 and you can have the difference in what one would cost me.

The more I watch videos like that the more I can’t wait to buy my first electric car. And ditch my dream 911 GT3 😂. So many parts with petrol cars it’s staggering the amount of engineering they go through...

That bearing appears to be seeing assy metric bending loads (design related and prone to deflection.) Note American Muscle puts a spline shaft in there to anchor all that rotary momentum. I always was opinion Italian design is pretty/sexy, BUT NEver “bullet proof”.
