One Failed $80 Part Messed up EVERYTHING on my Audi. I Fixed it ALL Without the Dealers Help...

If you will use Gibbs has the penetrating oil, and let it sit overnight or even a day or two. And keep it soaked it will get into those folks better than almost anything I've ever seen. It will soak into a millionth of an inch. Not only that you can actually spray it on something and wipe the item down and paint it without cleaning it off and the paint will adhere to the item. I've seen it used for bringing under hood engines back to looking like Nearly New. I used it on one vehicle tour almost 200,000 miles and if you clean off the engine it literally looked like it was less than 3 months old. It's a great product. Do not oh, do not, do not, forget to put anti seize on the bolts that you put back into that stupid bracket. If you had drilled that out and put a helicoil in it with some Loctite you could have still saved the old bracket. I don't know what you were using to try and keep that up with but it should have been an oxy-acetylene, not a propane torch. Propane will not get it warm enough quick enough to cause it to break loose from the bolt. Furthermore I'd like to give you the difference between an Audi, especially a TT, or an R8 or R-10, and a porcupine. A porcupine has its Pricks on the outside!

Silver TT roadster is a 1.8 you can tell by the single exhaust which means it's not a Quattro either.

Hit a deer recently. Same mount exploded in my engine bay. Wasted a lot of time looking for oil leaks then found it. The fluid in it had me wishing a polyurethane unit was in production. Oh well. Mush on with the soft oem one I go

You should always support parts when putting in bolts that support weight it is a VERY BAD IDEA to use the bolt to lift parts as you tighten them

Use "Hagel's brew" (50% acetone / 50% atf) to loosen rusted bolts. This is a trick used by big rig/farm equipment mechanics.

to remove 'clamp' style strut to knuckle. to make removal easier drive a wedge into the slot of the knuckle (like a chisel) that will spread the knuckle mount slightly

You should have jacked the engine up on various points to release any weight forced onto the broken bolt...

I'm surprised you didn't just replace the bushing(s) in the lower engine mount with a poly bushing. Would have been a lot cheaper than replacing the whole thing. Everything else I would have done the same though!

Hey Sam, Next time try a tap and die set. Tap the top of the bolt and die it so the inside threads go the opposite way then screw in a smaller bolt and continue screwing it in until the big bolt starts to unscrew from the hole.

Why the bolt hole on that bracket is oval and not fitted with the bolt?is that adjustable? thats why the bolt snap because of that space that should have no movement because thats the rubber is for..german engineering.

i can say firsthand as the Audi R8 is my favorite car ever that it is much better spec-wise and in beauty than the TT in virtually every metric. but for that price, you might have a bargain bin surprise on your hands!

I own both cars, v8 r8 and the 1.8t 225 tt, the tt is tuned to only around 350bhp but its so much more fun than the r8, it feels small and wants to be driven hard and fast, I feel the r8 doesn't like being smashed through the gears full pelt
