I know I’m late to the party, but using scotch-brite pads on aluminum block decks was always drilled into my head to be a no-no, at least by the manufacturer training schools I’ve attended over the years. Risking another head gasket leak. Always use non-metallic scrapers.

What you really have to keep in mind with warped OHC heads is that the entire head becomes warped all the way through, meaning that even if you shave the bottoms of extremely warped heads, the upper part of the heads remain warped and cams can end up binding in their warped journals. Best to first try to straighten the heads out in oven as much as possible, THEN shave down whatever amount of warp left.

The only problem with a shimmed head gasket is, it's very likely to fail in the future. I've had this happen to me in the past, they become an inherent weak point. Good luck with the car.

All I do is change oil & rotate the GoodRich’s @ 32mpg. Until I stretch it out for a 1/2 hour in the SuperSlab. Grandad took a 1/2 Thought & re-engineered an American Tuner. Eibach 2” drop the works. It likes Mustangs.
